A collective of grassroots groups wants professionals such as therapists or crisis intervention specialists — not police — to respond to mental health crises and other nonviolent incidents in Columbus.

The Columbus Safety Collective Campaign aims to put a city charter amendment before voters on the Nov. 4 general election ballot. The group announced Friday that it had submitted the “Community Crisis Response Amendment” to the city clerk for review.
